It's still not clear to me how Eclipse uses this, but it appears to be defaulting to this and not taking the project overrides.I have also installed Java 1.5, and added a JRE for this in eclipse in the Java-Installed JREs section. We added the JREs for Java 1.4 and referenced that system library in the project, and set the project's compiler level to 1.4, and it works fine. But when I do the same changes to try to point to Java 1.5, it instead uses 1.6. Do you have an actual 1.5 JRE in the Installed JREs preference page, or just specifying a 1.5 Execution Environment for the project?Although you can use the “Install New Software” option from the Help menu – its best not to.PLEASE USE THE “Synaptic Package Manager” to do any “updates / upgrades” to Eclipse packages and plugins. If that is not the case then you should try to unzip again or download the whole eclipse zip again.Synaptic Package Manager 0.75.9 Eclipse Indigo 3.7.2 —Eclipse JDT (Java) 3.7.2 —Eclipse CDT (C/C ) ——6.0.0(C/C Remote debug launcher) ——1.0.2(CDT GCC Cross Compiler) ——7.0.0(GDB Common) Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Ant 1.8.2 Open JDK 8 Java/Javac 1.7 In order to start, you have to create a VM (or install in your native environment), get the Open JDK source code, install a number of packages, and build the Open JDK from command line, as it described in Adopt Open JDK VM Build (Old Build and Infra Build).
Select eclipse-jdt from the packages list and the rest of the dependencies will also get selected. A Summary window will appear, click on the Apply button again.
You can use the below commands (optional) to update and upgrade packages: Also accept any available updates from the Ubuntu Software Centre.
Once this is done, a reboot of the Ubuntu system will be required.
